Reign with Dick and Jane – A snippet & a sale!

Reign with Dick and Jane (Hell and Earth Book 3) is live!

I feel like this one was a long time coming. It was fun to wrap up this storyline. This also marks the completion of my first series!!

In honor of this momentous occasion, I have two surprises for you.

Thing 1: a snippet!

“You can’t come to my house and tell me what to do.”

He tried to get up and leave, but my spell stopped him. It took a few tries before he realized that it must’ve been something I’ve done. He didn’t like that.

“Jane Diaboloso, you release me.”

“You’re not bound here. Be glad I didn’t use the Devil’s Trap. The both of you simply must sit here until we work out the details. Then, you’re more than welcome to go on your way.”

“What kind of woman uses witchcraft on her father?”

“What kind of woman has the devil for a father?” I asked, raising an eyebrow and continuing to eat my meal.

He fell silent and started sulking. Dick then tried to get up and saw that he was bound too.

“I didn’t even do anything wrong. Why am I bound here?”

“Because you don’t listen. I just said that both of you are bound here until we come to an agreement so who’s going to go first?”

They sulked while eating their food. Dick and Dad were upset, but not too upset to eat. They were never too upset to eat.

“Fine. If neither one of you wants to put forth any effort into this, I’m going to make the plans. And if I make the plans you don’t have a say. So, first things first. If we’re going to be running Hell together, we can’t be living with my father.”

“And just where you think you’re going to go,” Lucifer asked.

“Nowhere. You’re out. After dinner feel free to pack your things.”

The table in front of Dad burst into flames.

Putting Lucifer out of his own house is a bold move. You’ll have to read the story to see how that plays out!

Thing 2: a sale!

Starting tomorrow, Hell With Dick and Jane (Hell and Earth Book 1) goes on sale for $0.99! The sale is only for 5 days, so get it while it’s hot!

Honestly, how sexy is this series image?

Too sexy!

Snippet from The Furious Prince

In case you haven’t heard, The Imp Prince released over the weekend!

I have a story in it called The Furious Prince. This story was my first foray into the techmage genre. Techmage is a mashup of science fiction and fantasy.

The Furious Prince is is another fairy tale retelling. You can find the original story on Wikipedia here. In this story, you will meet Furibon, a prince on a faraway planet. Despised by his father and most of his subjects, he hides his magical gifts until his sister is abducted. Check out the snippet below:

It was dusk, so the visibility was still good in the forest. Dusk was best because we had two suns that set within two hours of each other. That left me a good time to get my frustrations out. I strapped my resonator onto my face, and felt relieved as the straps clicked into place behind my head. It felt good to have something that I could control.

I focused my intention on my anger. I felt it welling up inside of me. When I began to sing, two feet in front of me a black and red fractal took shape. As it rushed away from me, the bushes in front of me caught flame. The fire out here wouldn’t be as dangerous as one closer to our lands. There were no homes out here that we had to concern ourselves with. Fire suppression drones were set to auto-deploy if the fire didn’t burn itself out.

I was still singing when I thought of Andre’s pretty face. The fractal that appeared before me was the teal blue of his skin combined with the blue-black tones of his hair. It twisted and turned into shape. I thrust it away from me, shattering the trunks of several trees. They splintered like robots falling on pavement. The tops of the trees looked out of place strewn all over the ground.

I heard footsteps behind me as though someone was trying to sneak up on me. I whirled around, and saw Andre’s face. He was half hidden behind a tree. I ceased my song.

“It looks like this planet is hiding more than just pretty princesses.”

“What are you doing here?”

“I was merely taking a walk. The question is, what are you doing here? Something tells me that the king doesn’t know about this. I would be greatly rewarded if he were to find out,” he said. That vile sneer was forming on his lips once again.

“I don’t think he will find out.”

“Oh? Don’t you? What will you do to encourage me to keep your secret?”

“I think I’ll ask you to leave. Leave this planet. I don’t know what you have planned, but I doubt it’s anything good.”

“Oh, but it’s magnificent. I plan to rule this planet. I’ll start by taking your sister. Perhaps, I’ll even give your lovely mother a try.”

For the Love of Blue: A Bluebeard Retelling

Can you tell that I have a thing for anthologies? I really can’t help myself. Anthologies let me write with a great group of writers, and I get to try new genres.

Bluebeard is another fairy tale retelling. You can check out the source story here.

The idea of marrying a man with a secret life isn’t new, but when he is a killer there are a lot of directions it can go. I chose one of the darker paths.

The main character, Rosemary, is cruel and more than a little crazy. It was hard for me to pull a snippet for this one because I didn’t want to give too much away. Here’s a tiny one though:

Ginger smiled at Mr. Jarnac across the table. She always did have a lovely smile. I kicked her under the table. She looked over at me in surprise. Her smile faded from her lips.

My eyes narrowed. I made a mental note to split Ginger’s lip later. I should knock out one of her teeth for good measure. If our parents were going to push me at this man, I didn’t want either of my sisters to interfere.

The ending is definitely going to surprise you! Read more in my latest anthology:

Check out Gray Intention in Prime Fantasy

Gray Intention was one of the first stories that I wrote after joining Phoenix Prime.

The assignment was a new experience for me. We were all given a set of items that we needed to use in our stories. Each story had to feature a bookstore, magic, and an artifact that reacted to blood.

Here is a sneak peak of what I came up with:

As we rounded the corner to our room, we saw a purple glow coming from under the door. We both stopped, and turned to look at each other, alarmed.

“Do you see that? Or, have I just lost a lot more blood than I thought?”

“I see it. Who the hell is in our room?” Kiki asked.

“How should I know? I’m with you. Maybe it’s the guys.”

I slowly opened the door, and felt the same warm gust of air that I had felt in the bookstore blow past me again. It didn’t push me away this time though. I was curious about that strange power.

“Maybe we shouldn’t even go in there. We could call the cops or something.”

“And say what exactly? Hey, I need help with my glowing box. I promise you that will not go well. I don’t think you have a choice now. Put your ovaries on the outside and get in there,” Kiki said.

“Said the girl from the hallway,” I muttered.

“Not my box. Not my problem,” she said.

I opened the door, and crept towards the package. My hands were shaking. When I took it out of bag, the glow got brighter. I unwrapped the twine. The paper fell away. The whole box was dark brown from my blood Gold symbols glowed on the surface. Purple light was leaking out of the edges. I opened the box, and inside was a gold railroad spike bent into a bracelet. It was the source of the glow.

“Bit of a letdown, to be honest.”

“Shut up, Kiki. I think I have to put it on.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she said.

“I didn’t ask. For the record, I didn’t want to come in here. I was just fine panicking in the hallway.”

I picked it up. The bracelet was warm to the touch. I placed it on my right wrist. My cut began to throb. My arm shot up, as if pulled by a string. The wound began emitting the same purple light as the bracelet. I watched in amazement. A booming laugh thundered around us. I could hear footsteps pounding down the hallway behind me moments before a giant man appeared in front of me. As soon as he appeared, my arm dropped back to my side.

“They told me you would come for me little one,” he said, in a thunderous voice.

I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it! Check it out here: Prime Fantasy (Prime Tales)

Are you ready for the Blackout?

I have a story in a new anthology! The anthology is called CyberWar: Digital Battlefield (CyberPrime). All the stories in this anthology deal with cyber crimes and their effects on the people around them. All you have to do is turn on the news to find ransomware viruses and info leaks. So, why not find some in fiction?

This will be the first story in my Silent Spies series. Read on for a snippet!

Two days before the Blackout, Tricia hacked the prison database to move up the release of two prominent activists. She was able to bypass the intrusion detection system by using a prison employee’s account. Both activists were released without a hitch, and no one even questioned it. Fools.

They hit the ground running. Once the activists received word of the Blackout, they were drumming up support from their followers as well. They helped to quell any fears about it being an attack staged by the police.

The safe release of the activists was all Tricia needed to go ahead with her plan. She had been working on a virus for weeks. Until she had fully committed to the idea, she had told herself building the virus was for research. She was trained in ethical hacking and security, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch. Now, she had to admit to herself that she created this purposely.

Snippets for Everyone: Topside with Dick and Jane

I have a new preorder! I set up preorders to give myself a deadline. In this case, the deadline is set to get the book out in the world. I actually had most of this story written when I released Hell with Dick and Jane. I was dragging my feet to get it done. So, I put it on preorder to hold myself accountable. It was interesting to write about Dick and Jane adjusting to life together Topside.

How do you think demons would fit in on Earth. Would you go the route of Supernatural? Hell with Dick and Jane? Or, would you do something totally different? The following unedited snippet is what I came up with.

We had to hide those horns right away. Even if you didn’t go anywhere, a delivery guy could see them.  Or even worse, a neighbor.  Dick was against That idea from the very  first suggestion. we  had such a fight. But, there is no way he could leave the house with  huge horns.  He just wanted to go around being invisible, but I don’t want to walk around talking to myself. Plus I wanted him to get out and get active. If you stuck your permanently, you might want to make a life for himself.

As a manager in Inferno, horns were a status symbol. I controlled my horns with my magic, but I was half human. Full blooded demons  grow their horns throughout their whole lives. Dick’s were quite impressive. They grew out of the front of his  and they were jet black. He kept his haircut low in a Caesar. His horns framed his head  and curved towards the back of it and then came out to a subtle point,  nothing too sharp. They were at least two feet long. They were quite beautiful. The black horns were a stark contrast between to his tawny brown skin.

While they may be attractive, they would definitely stand out. So, they had to go. He wanted me to just use a simple glamour on them, but the problem with that was if we came in contact with any other witches they  might be able to see them.  Or, at least sense them.  So more drastic measures needed to be taken.

I said this spell to unfurl my wand. His eyes widened in amazement. He had never actually seen me do the spell before. Once my wand was that full-length, I used it to take measure of his energy. the demon vibes were strong with this one. The only way for me to hide his horns would be to hide his true spirit. He hated the idea that so we decided to do a top-secret spell I was really good at using this when I was a teenager basically we were going to force his horns inside. When I explained to him how the process worked he was horrified. It was definitely going to be painful. [[insert spell work here]

when I was finished, I had  him look in the mirror. he looked at himself in stunned silence.  At first I thought he might cry. But he was naturally vain, so after turning his head to and fro.

“Well it does make for a smooth profile.”

I sighed and rolled my eyes. Maybe this would be easier than we thought.

“I look like one of your filthy human friends,” he said.

So much for easy I guess.

“Humans aren’t all filthy, as you well know. You told me you accepted my human side once,” I said.

It seems so long ago now that we were talking about what we needed to make our relationship work.

“of course your human side because you had a better, demon side. I just feel like a monkey in a suit”

“I’m so sorry that you have to settle for looking like one of us. But, if you want to live through the day you have to blend in.”

Dick scoffed and said, “live through the day? As if any of these humans could affect me.”

“There are more than just humans here. there are witches and warlocks and all kinds of beings. you’re not a special snowflake.”

“I think you know just how special I am,” he said.

If only he would let me forget. He was special. But today, he was being a special pain in my ass.

Topside With Dick and Jane (Hell and Earth Book 2) is on preorder now.

So You Want a Sneak Peak? Check Out a Scene from Half Sight

This collection is on presale everywhere. Official release date is March 28th!

I had been channeling a spirit named Sable for over a year. She was an independent artist with an amazing talent, but she had died young. She helped me write my songs. She was just starting to come into her own when she passed away due to the drug overdose. So not a lot of people knew about her. But I had been a huge fan. So, when I was looking for someone to help me write my songs she was my first choice. She can be a little crazy. But that’s what made it such a great artist. She sang hard, and she partied hard. She had never performed in my part of the world, so I never got to see her live, but I watched every video that was online. Unfortunately, there weren’t too many. I knew every single one of her songs by heart.

It is every person’s dream to meet their heroes. Sometimes, it is a bit of a letdown. You build an image in your head of who you expect someone to be and when they are even the smallest bit different, it’s a huge blow. I learned pretty quickly that singing with them helps me keep the dream of them alive. Musicians are my specialty, but occasionally I can go off a bit. For example, actors who sing. Marilyn Monroe is my favorite drinking partner. A lot of people thought that she actually was the ditzy blonde that she portrayed in some of her movies, but she was so much more. She was amazingly smart and a shrewd business woman. I wish I had known her in life.

I am afraid to pull spirits from too far back. I would love to meet Cleopatra. But, my knowledge of Egyptian theology is a bit spotty. They had specific beliefs about the afterlife.  I’m not really sure that is something that I am prepared to deal with. I am pretty much just making this stuff up as I go. I happened to notice that I got a better fix on a spirit when I was around one of my crystal sculptures. That led me to do some research on crystals to enlarge my collection.

Since I had all of this contact with the late great and I already loved music, going into music was a given. I had some of the best mentors to ever live at my disposal. I loved rock. When my career was first starting, I was constantly pushed to R&B music. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. But I was made for rock and roll.

I gathered everything I needed to call Sable. Purple was her favorite color, so I had purple candles in a circle on the table and some amethyst crystals on the table. Her music was playing softly in the background. I pulled out my wand and tapped it on the table. I said my spell and called her to me. I had a show coming up, and I needed her help.

“Sable, are you there?” I asked. I felt the chill in the air before I heard her voice.

“Don’t I always come when I’m called?” she asked, appearing beside me.

“Sounds like you’re a little upset,” I said.

“I’m dead. Why waste my time with emotions? Maybe I just get tired of being your little lap dog,” Sable said.

“You know that’s not what this is. Please. I’m having a terrible week. I just need help prepping for tonight’s show,” I said.

“The free ride is over chick. If you want my help, you have to give me something in return,” she said.

“Our deal was I bring you back to this side to make music, and we hang out,” I said.

“Look, kid, that’s sweet. But, I don’t need any more friends. I want to perform,” she said.

“I’m not sure how my fans will respond to a ghost on stage,” I said.

She laughed.

“Bind me to one of your amethysts and take me with you. Or let me in,” she said.

“You know I can’t let you in. I won’t let a spirit ride me,” I said.

“Fine. Your loss,” she said and disappeared.
